Historical background:
This type of boat is typical of the motorised fishing boats found along the Cantabrian coast and the Bay of Biscay. It is the smallest vessel of this type on which traditional fishing is still practised. Propulsion is provided by a diesel engine, which is always located amidships. The oars are used only in emergencies. These fishing boats are generally between 6 and 8 m long, with engine output between 12 and 20 hp.
Near the coast and no more than 6 miles from the harbour, longline, hook and pot fishing are the methods most commonly used.
