VANGUARD REMOLCADOR A VAPOR

This item is not on stock and has to be re-ordered.
Historical background:

Vanguard was built in 1841 by Thomas Ellis. In Europe, propulsion was generally provided by side-mounted paddle wheels. The first paddle tugs still used paddle wheels with fixed blades and were employed to tow boats on the River Tyne in north-east England. Tugs were to remain an essential part of the River Tyne's history for almost 150 years.

The advantages of steam tugs were that larger ships could be brought to Newcastle, turnaround times were shortened, and harbour operations became independent of wind and bad weather. Vanguard had several owners over the years and was scrapped in London in 1863.
