Following the War of Independence, after Spain had lost most of its American colonies, merchant shipping from the Iberian Peninsula declined and mainly coastal sailing vessels remained. Efforts were therefore made to re-establish trade with the Antilles.
By royal decree of Carlos III, trade was reopened with the colonies that had remained loyal to Spain. The small felucca San Juan "El Glorioso" was the first vessel used for this purpose.
The model is a detailed reproduction of the original. The kit contains all the parts required to build the ship model down to the smallest detail and is a good introduction to ship modelling.
