Relax with this creative form of leisure and embark on a journey to the past with our ship model kits.

The Ulises was a salvage tug designed for high-seas operations. In the 1960s, maritime trade was exceptionally busy.

Merchant ships faced numerous dangers from storms and rough seas, making salvage tugs vitally important. These vessels ensured that damaged ships could be safely brought to the nearest harbor. At that time, metal was the predominant material used in shipbuilding. The strength of steel was utilized for constructing the hull, while wood was used for cladding the bridge and crew areas. This combination gave the ships a particularly beautiful appearance, extending beyond their primary role as simple utility vessels.

The Hercules Salvage Tug from OcCre is a detailed model of one of the most impressive tugs in the world. With a scale of 1:50 and R/C capability (remote-controlled), this model kit offers model builders the opportunity to create a technical masterpiece that fascinates both with its size and its history.

Historical Background of the Hercules Salvage Tug

The Hercules began its career as a high-seas tugboat and was often used for voyages along the coast of San Francisco to the north, due to the prevailing northwest winds. Later, it was used to tow barges to other West Coast ports and to Hawaii, as well as transport equipment for the construction of the Panama Canal.

One memorable event in the history of the Hercules occurred in 1947 when it was tasked with the tugging of the battleship Oklahoma’s hull to the San Francisco Bay for scrapping. 500 miles off the coast of Hawaii, the ship was struck by a powerful storm, and the Oklahoma began to fill with water and sink. The Hercules could not free itself in time and narrowly escaped disaster as the Oklahoma almost dragged it down to the ocean floor.

In 1986, the Hercules was declared a National Historic Landmark and is now one of the exhibits at the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, located at the Hyde Street Pier. It remains a significant maritime monument.

The OcCre Model Kit

The Hercules Salvage Tug model kit by OcCre is a challenging yet rewarding project for model builders seeking a special challenge. With a 1:50 scale and R/C capability, the kit includes:

Detailed wood and metal parts, accurately reflecting the historical design of the Hercules.
High-quality materials, including walnut wood, brass, and stainless steel, ensuring both the aesthetics and durability of the model.
A simple step-by-step guide that makes the building process accessible even for less experienced model builders.
R/C capability, allowing the tug to be fully remote-controlled after assembly – a highlight for model builders who wish to bring their model to life.

Technical Fascination of the Model

Building a ship model like the Hercules Salvage Tug is not just a technical project, but also an opportunity to recreate a piece of maritime history. During the build, model builders learn about the engineering behind such an impressive ship. The R/C capability lets the builder experience the model in action, making the project a particularly fascinating experience.

With a scale of 1:90, this kit offers model builders the opportunity to create a fascinating piece of history that represents the pinnacle of Spanish shipbuilding in the 18th century.

Historical Background of the Santísima Trinidad

The Santísima Trinidad was a Spanish 4-decked line ship with 136 guns, commissioned in 1769 in Havana, Cuba, by the Spanish shipbuilder José Romero de Landa. As the largest ship in the world at the time, the Santísima Trinidad was an impressive example of Spain's maritime power and one of the strongest warships of the era.

With a length of over 60 meters and a width of nearly 16 meters, the Santísima Trinidad was a true heavyweight of the seas. It symbolized Spain's military dominance in the Atlantic and played a key role in many significant naval battles, including the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, where it was ultimately defeated by British forces. Despite its defeat, the Santísima Trinidad remains a landmark of Spanish naval history.

Role in History

During its service, the Santísima Trinidad was one of the most important ships in the Spanish Navy. It participated in several major battles and was considered nearly invincible due to its enormous firepower. Its impressive size and armament made it a crucial symbol of Spanish naval power.

In 1805, during the Battle of Trafalgar, the Santísima Trinidad was captured by the British Royal Navy and heavily damaged. Its defeat marked the end of an era for the Spanish Navy, but the ship remains an iconic symbol of the naval craftsmanship of the time.

The Sección Santísima Trinidad model kit by OcCre is a masterpiece of model building, suitable for both experienced modelers and ambitious beginners. With a scale of 1:90 and incredible attention to detail, the kit offers:

Precise wood and metal parts that faithfully recreate the historical design of the ship.
Premium materials, including walnut wood, brass, and stainless steel, to ensure authenticity.
A simple step-by-step guide that makes the building process accessible even to less experienced modelers.
The opportunity to create an authentic model that will stand out in any collection or on any desk.

The Fascination of Model Building

Building a historical ship model like the Santísima Trinidad is more than just a hobby – it is a journey into history. During the build, modelers gain an appreciation for the impressive engineering of the time and dive deep into the history of a ship that once ruled the oceans.

Conclusion

Frigates were versatile and fast warships designed for speed and maneuverability, serving roles in both combat and exploration. Frigates like the Belle Poule were known for their speed and maneuverability, making them ideal for a variety of thasks, including puruing and attacking enemy vessels, as well as for explration and patrol missions
Although its construction began in 1828, the Belle Poule was not launched until 1834. Following favourable reports from her sea trials, she was adopted as the model for another seven ships that were built over the coming years, and which came to be known as the Ildefonsinos. After seeing action on numerous occasions, both in the Mediterranean Squadron and the Ocean Squadron, she took part in the battles of Cape St. Vincent, in 1797, and Trafalgar, in 1805. At Trafalgar, under Commodore Don José Vargas, and forming a part of the combined fleet's observation squadron, she was one of the fastest in the fleet. 34 of her crew members were killed and another 148 wounded.
age recommendation: +14
WARNING!
