The history of the Roman villa of Centcelles, near the Roman capital Tarraco, is an example of the evolution of urban life to the rural environment starting in the 3rd century A.D., in spite of its more remote origins. As of this time the construction is extended in monumental form and begins to fulfill the functions of mausoleum. Important mosaics are found in its late central dome.
