The first cable cars of this kind were brought into operation in London and, many years later, on 2nd August 1873, Andrew S. Hallidie introduced the first San Francisco cable car, on the Clay Street line. 136 years later these attractive vehicles are still running on the streets of San Francisco and form an essential part of the city’s daily life. The system is based on a cable that is pulled at a constant velocity, along the whole route, by a stationery engine. The cable car starts to move when a device, called a grip, is engaged under pressure to the cable. By loosening this grip, and at the same time applying the breaks, the car is brought to a halt. These days there are only two fleets still in service. One of these is Powell-Hyde and Powell-Mason, while the other is California Street. This model is a reproduction of car No. 60, of the California Street fleet, built by MUNI (San Francisco Municipal Railway) in 1998 this car was brought into service in 2002. This car is based on the original model, built by John Hammond & Company for the California Street Cable Railroad Company, back in 1906. After the earthquake and the fire, of April 1906, it was rebuilt, at the relocated Hammond workshops and renumbered No. 16, later on, in 1957 it was renumbered again as No. 60, by MUNI. The cable car was finally renovated again in 1968-69, at the MUNI Elkton workshops, using the original seats and roof.
age recommendation: +14
WARNING! It was in service with the Lacroze Company in Buenos Aires between 1907 and 1939.
In 1980, N° 258 was acquired by the Friends of the Buenos Aires Tram Association (AAT). The AAT restored the magnificent unit, making minor modifications to the outside to finally obtain an exact replica of the Buenos Aires Lacroze. It has run through the Caballito neighbourhood of Buenos Aires since 15 November 1980.
In 2014, Lacroze No. 258 was declared a National Historic Asset.

age recommendation: +14
WARNING! The construction of this line was decreed on August 20, 1869, and just ten days later, the contract for laying tram tracks in Istanbul was signed. On February 18, 1870, the Dersaadet Tramway Establishment was founded.

In 1908, the Tünel line was inaugurated, later becoming part of the tramway company, and the route was extended to Taksim Square. The original operating company endured numerous setbacks, including World War I, but was nationalized in 1939 and became part of the public transportation company IETT.

In the 1960s, tram operations in Istanbul were completely discontinued. However, since December 29, 1990, historical trams have been running on the Taksim-Tünel line under the name "Istanbul's Nostalgic Tramway." Today, modern trams have also become an integral part of Istanbul's cityscape.

Our collection of model trams from cities around the world includes this fascinating historical model, which is sure to delight fans of scale tram modeling.

These trams were considered the safest in Lisbon as they were fitted with a reinforced braking system and were used for the lines covering the most difficult routes, such as 12, 25 or 28, with ramps of up to 12%, which were also the steepest slopes in the world for simple adherence tram lines.

The tram is fitted with five types of brake, pneumatic, mechanical, electric, electromagnetic with shoes and mechanical with shoes. Each tram was also fitted with two powerful, 45 HP, Metropolitan Vickers electric motors and a Brill 21-E type truck, built by Maley & Tauton.

The body is of the standard Lisbon type, based on American Brill designs, with its most notable characteristic being the sharply cambered roof. The tram maintained its original design up until 1985-1987, when the series was reformed and adapted for a single driver/conductor, pneumatically operated doors were installed along with flashing lights and the street-side doors were sealed off.

After 1995 the original trams gradually started to be replaced with remodelled Series 500 trams, although a number of units were maintained in operational conditions for charter services and occasional substitutions on the regular lines.

A. Maffei workshops in Munich, with the first one being delivered on 16th July 1908. The axle layout is of the Pacific type with large diameter wheels. At that time it was the biggest engine ever to be built by this manufacturer and is still considered the most beautiful locomotive of the German railways. The S 3/6 performed excellently on long distance routes, in 1951 pulling a train of 150 tonnes over a distance of 180 kilometres, from Hamburg to Munich, only stopping to top up on water. The “S” is for Schnellzuglocomotiven (long-distance train) and 3/6 is the number of drive axles compared with total axles. These locomotives were mainly used on long-distance lines in Bavaria, although they also pulled such famous trains as the Orient Express and Rheingold, the Ostend-Vienna Express or the Paris-Carlsbad-Prague Express. Multiple variations were applied throughout this locomotive’s history, mainly in terms of the cab, boiler and engine mechanisms.
age recommendation: +14
WARNING! Multiple variations were applied throughout this locomotive’s history, mainly in terms of the cab, boiler and engine mechanisms.
age recommendation: +14
WARNING! The Jupiter was an American locomotive of the 4-4-0 type and is historically very important because of the role that it played in the first American transcontinental railway line. This train was owned by the Central Pacific Railroad and was built in 1868 by the Schenectady Locomotive Works of New York, along with three other locomotives: Storm, Leviathan and Whirlwind. The Jupiter weighed 65,400 pounds and had 60 inch driving wheels and cylinders measuring 16 by 24 inches. The Jupiter was a wood-burning locomotive and generated a traction force of 10,790 pounds. You will find out, step by step, how to put together a model featuring all the details of the original locomotive. We invite you to let yourself get carried away and set up spaces for creative leisure in which you can enjoy this marvellous model train.
age recommendation: +14
WARNING! The success of these fast and powerful locomotives meant that they were ideal for pulling large, fast express passenger trains, both in Spain and France. In fact, Pacific 4-6-2 trains continued in active service in France right up until the sixties. This locomotive, which was also known as La Princesa, represents one of the most glorious pages in the history of French railway transport. Pacific type locomotives, during their many years of service, pulled some of France's most emblematic trains, such as the famous Fléche d'Or.
age recommendation: +14
WARNING! On December 7, 1835, the Adler traveled along the six-kilometer track between Nuremberg and Fürth, inaugurating Germany’s first railway connection. This historic journey laid the foundation for the industrial revolution in the region.

Constructed by Robert Stephenson & Co. in England, the Adler was shipped in parts to Germany, as local locomotive manufacturing was nonexistent at the time. Assembly and operation were entrusted to British engineer William Wilson, who impressively maneuvered the locomotive at a speed of 23 km/h. For many people of the era, this velocity was astonishing, with some even fearing potential health risks from such “high speeds.”

More than just a technological marvel, the Adler symbolized economic progress and societal transformation. Though the original machine is lost to history, a meticulously crafted replica, created in 1952, resides at the DB Museum in Nuremberg. A second, operational replica, built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of German railways in 1935, was restored in 2007 following damage from a depot fire.

The modest but symbolic route between Nuremberg and Fürth marked only the beginning. Within a decade, Germany's railway network expanded to over 2,000 kilometers, making travel more accessible across social classes—from the opulent first-class plush seating to the wooden benches of fourth-class carriages.

The Adler heralded an age of adventure and change, transforming mobility and ushering in an era of industrial and economic growth. Its billowing steam and rhythmic churning remain an enduring emblem of the birth of modern transportation.

George Stephenson's Rocket emerged as the winner out of the five locomotives that competed.
Weighing only 4250 kg, this locomotive featured a fire-tube boiler with a blast pipe, ensuring high heat transfer. The boiler measured 1.82 m in length and had a diameter of 1 m. The inclined cylinders drove the pistons, which were coupled to the driving wheels with a diameter of 1.44 m, achieving a speed of 49 kilometers per hour. Due to its characteristics, the Rocket was well-suited for transporting goods and passengers, ushering in a new era in the history of transportation.
Step by step, assemble a detailed replica of a historic railway model. It was one of the hundred B Class vehicles ordered by the London County Council. With number 106 this car was used as a passenger transit vehicle up until 1925, when it was converted into a snowbroom and given the number 022. En 1983, 106 was taken to the Crich Village National Tramway Museum, in Derbyshire, where it remains to this day, having covered over 10,000 miles transporting passengers. It was originally powered by Dick Kerr motors, type DK25A, providing 25 hp, which were replaced in 1927 by Westinghouse motors, type 220, providing 42 hp. It was originally fitted with handbrakes on the wheels and rheostatic braking through the motors. In 1908 magnetic track brakes were fitted.

age recommendation: +14
WARNING!
