The Domus Kits 40099 stone construction kit “Romanica 22 – Sant Joan de Boí” is a highly detailed model of the Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Boí, located in the Catalan Pyrenees. With 2,637 individual pieces, this kit offers a challenging and authentic building experience for model-making enthusiasts.

The church of Sant Joan de Boí is situated in the small village of Boí in the Catalan Pyrenean valley known as the “Vall de Boí” (Spain). Built in the 11th century, it is an impressive example of Lombard-Romanesque architecture, a style brought to the region by Italian master builders.

Typical features of this architectural style include slender, rectangular bell towers, decorative blind arcades on the facades, and the use of natural stone masonry. Particularly striking is the six-story bell tower, which rises above the simple, single-nave floor plan of the church – a characteristic hallmark of Romanesque sacred architecture in the Vall de Boí.

The church was once adorned with colorful frescoes, some of which are now preserved and on display at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona. The preserved architectural elements and reconstructed building make Sant Joan de Boí a significant monument of medieval architectural heritage.

In 2000, the church, along with eight other Romanesque churches in the valley, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This cultural landscape represents a rare and exceptionally well-preserved example of early medieval church architecture in Europe.

This construction kit is aimed at advanced model builders and history enthusiasts who appreciate detailed and authentic reproductions of historic structures. The combination of high-quality materials and a precise building manual ensures a realistic and rewarding building experience.

Discover the fascination of Romanesque architecture with the Domus Kits 40099 and enrich your collection with a piece of European architectural history.

Due to the small population, the parish was dissolved in 1415 and merged with Sant Quintí de Puig-rodon. The church’s history is closely linked to the House of Rotllan, which has been documented since 1180.

The church of Sant Joan de Caselles is located on a hill along the N-II road towards France, near Canillo, Andorra. Although little is known about the population of the region at that time, it is believed that the church served as a parish church in the 11th and 12th centuries. During road construction in 1930, human bone remains were discovered, and in 1988, a necropolis with around 30 graves was found near the church’s apse. All the graves were oriented eastward and carved into the rock, dating back to the 11th or 12th century.

About the Church of Sant Cugat de Gavadons

The Sant Cugat de Gavadons church is located on a plateau in the Sierra, which separates the Plana de Vic from the Moianès region, at an altitude of 1,008 meters. To reach the church, one takes the N-141 road from Manresa to Vic, turning off near the village of Collsuspina at kilometers 34 and 35, then following the road through Raval de les Casetes to Bellver, and continuing on to Sant Cugat. The 2.8 km stretch from the N-141 to Sant Cugat is easily accessible.

The church consists of a single nave with three side chapels that were added later. At the head, there is a rectangular presbytery, to which the sacristy was added later, separated by a thin wall. There are no remains of apses. At the foot of the nave stands a main arch supporting the bell tower. The tower has a square base, taking up half the width of the nave, and features two windows facing east and one facing west, with the modern horseshoe shape. The gable roof is made of wood and roof tiles, and the main door is rectangular, located on the main facade, with a round window above it.

Later it was catalogued along with the other churches in the area as a model of the Romanesque of the Aragon region, although it displays characteristics in common with the more widespread and universal Lombard Romanesque. It was declared a national monument in 1933, and restored on several occasions: 1988, 1991, 1997. We would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Julio Gavín, AMIGOS DE SERRABLO. www.serrablo.org Scale: 1:65
Contents: 3803 Wood: 4
Measurements: 234x375x310 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! It consisted of a rectangular building with an original wooden gabled roof and a semi-circular apse. The eccentric bell-tower dates back to 1400. During the Baroque period, the roof was replaced by a vault, and the original appearance of the rest of the building was also modified: a portico was added as well as other adjoining constructions. Scale: 1:63
Contens: 2357 Wood: 3
Measurements: 316x118x374 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING!
