The Domus Kits 40099 stone construction kit “Romanica 22 – Sant Joan de Boí” is a highly detailed model of the Romanesque church of Sant Joan de Boí, located in the Catalan Pyrenees. With 2,637 individual pieces, this kit offers a challenging and authentic building experience for model-making enthusiasts.

The church of Sant Joan de Boí is situated in the small village of Boí in the Catalan Pyrenean valley known as the “Vall de Boí” (Spain). Built in the 11th century, it is an impressive example of Lombard-Romanesque architecture, a style brought to the region by Italian master builders.

Typical features of this architectural style include slender, rectangular bell towers, decorative blind arcades on the facades, and the use of natural stone masonry. Particularly striking is the six-story bell tower, which rises above the simple, single-nave floor plan of the church – a characteristic hallmark of Romanesque sacred architecture in the Vall de Boí.

The church was once adorned with colorful frescoes, some of which are now preserved and on display at the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) in Barcelona. The preserved architectural elements and reconstructed building make Sant Joan de Boí a significant monument of medieval architectural heritage.

In 2000, the church, along with eight other Romanesque churches in the valley, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This cultural landscape represents a rare and exceptionally well-preserved example of early medieval church architecture in Europe.

This construction kit is aimed at advanced model builders and history enthusiasts who appreciate detailed and authentic reproductions of historic structures. The combination of high-quality materials and a precise building manual ensures a realistic and rewarding building experience.

Discover the fascination of Romanesque architecture with the Domus Kits 40099 and enrich your collection with a piece of European architectural history.

It was originally constructed as a civil building during the reign of Ramiro, from 842 to 850. In the twelfth century it was converted into the Church of St Mary, although it had previously served as a church dedicated to St. Michael of Liño. From 1929 to 1934, an in-depth restoration was conducted, and several annexes were eliminated. <p style=margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt text-indent: 0cm class=MsoBodyTextIndent2> Technically it is an innovative building due to its barrel vault supported by ribbed arches, which replaced the wooden Visigothic roofs. Scale: 1:65
Contents: 3854 Wood: 15
Measurements: 314x165x177 mm Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! Later it was catalogued along with the other churches in the area as a model of the Romanesque of the Aragon region, although it displays characteristics in common with the more widespread and universal Lombard Romanesque. It was declared a national monument in 1933, and restored on several occasions: 1988, 1991, 1997. We would like to express our appreciation to Mr. Julio Gavín, AMIGOS DE SERRABLO. www.serrablo.org Scale: 1:65
Contents: 3803 Wood: 4
Measurements: 234x375x310 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! Its construction is associated with a legend about the Counts of Liébana in 925. The rectangular building with its three naves is supported internally by horseshoe-shaped Mozarabic arches and Corinthian capitals and gives the impression of being formed by various projections with individual roofs. The church’s crucifix stands at the east while the sacristy is to the north. The belfry, in the shape of a single tower, is of contemporary construction. Scale: 1:84
Contens: 2855 Wood: 2
Measurements: 303x235x198 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructions: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! Although its origins in the late 8th century are unclear, it is quite likely that it was established directly under St Peters of Rome. As most Benedictine monasteries, St Benet was inactive as of the 14th century. After its public auction in 1845, the building was completely neglected. Its rooms were converted into housing for the workers of an adjacent factory until it was purchased in 1908 by the mother of the Modernist painter Ramon Casas, and restored by the architect Puig i Cadafalch. The Romanesque centre of the monastery comprises the church, the bell tower and the cloister. This area, with rooms along the perimeter, was the centre of all monastic life. The cloister consists of four galleries covered by a barrel vault. The monks rooms were probably located above this area. Scale: 1:65
Contents: 3715 pieces, 4 Wood Measurements: 320x255x303 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! It was used to house the remains of St Juliana, and later became a collegiate church. Starting in the 12th century, countless additions and reforms to the main sections of the building began. In addition to the majestic building, another noteworthy element of importance is the cloister in which the northern wing was reconstructed. The prevailing iconography on the capitals repeatedly alludes to intertwined plant shapes and angels. Scale: 1:50
Contents: 3415 pieces Measurements: 305x255x198 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! There is evidence of the building since the 9th century, although the present architectonic structure must be from the 12th century. In 1773 major reforms were undertaken that changed its appearance. Therefore it is a monumental Romanesque building (due to its considerable size) that has undergone an in-depth reform. It has a noteworthy sculptural decoration. We would like to express our appreciation to all institutions that have contributed information on development of the project, especially Mr. Francisco and Mr Javier Escobar of AEROMODELÍSMO ESCOBAR. Scale: 1:110
Contents: Measurements: 270x400x200 mm Buildingmovie: press here Instructiones: press here Plan: press here
age recommendation: +8
WARNING! The building blocks are made from natural clay fired at 1,000°C, giving them an authentic appearance and feel.
The basic structure is formed using pre-punched cardboard parts, which are then covered with the clay bricks –
a proven system that ensures a realistic result.
